The Taylors - 1998 Taylor W10

The Taylor W10 pictured below is the last Taylor walnut-bodied guitar I bought. It was purchased from an individual was "thinning the herd" and had decided to part with this incredible example. It was almost irresistable to be because I already had the W14C and W15 walnut models and this, more or less, completed the body style set.

In looking at the original pictures of the guitar, it appears that the top is cedar, like my W14C. However, I have not been able to find any mention of the W10 being available with a cedar top, other than by special order, and there is no indication that this was a special-order guitar. Therefore, I have to assume that the top is aged spruce (or maybe sat in direct sunlight for a long period?) and that is what gives it that rich, honey hue. The guitar itself is perfect and the factory hardshell case matches that condition. The pictures I took after receiving the guitar do a far better job of displaying the brilliance of the abalone purfling and inlay. The tone is still slightly "tight", indicating that it has not been played a great deal (which explains the mint condition) and I look forward to correcting that in the months to come.

And now for the pictures (click to enlarge):

The guitar came in the original Taylor hardshell case which, as mentioned above, is in mint condition. I would almost think that this guitar had been in the back room or under a bed somewhere, unplayed, since its manufacture. I am very careful whenever I play it as to not "personalize" it as I did the W14C. You can here a short sound-bite of this guitar by clicking here.

So concludes the presentation of my 1998 Taylor W10, a real treat for the eye and ear. Feel free to contact me with any questions and/or comments. *8o)
